Solar Power for Varin

Tuesday, 4 December 2012

After nearly 8 years with the sound of diesel generators whirring away in the distance to provide the faintest of flickering light to the Centre after dark, we now have solar power!
Thanks to a generous donor this year who also contributed to the upgrading of the Siem Reap premises, we now have 300 KVA of battery power, replenished each day by the sun. This is enough to run 12 lights and a couple of laptops for a few hours each night without the intermittent power surges we used to get from the old generator , without the cost of diesel , without the noise of the engine and knowing it is clean energy. It has meant the students can spend a few extra hours reading or studying in the evening , the carers can complete their chores in the light and they can all prepare for a good nights sleep in relative peace. Thanks so much to our donor for their generous contribution. Its something we all in the west take so much for granted.
